Underrated Games: A Quick Review about Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was a game released for the SNES on October 5th, 1992 in North America. The Final Fantasy series is characterized by an easy to use but hard to master kind of game play in each of the main series titles. However, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was different from the rest of the games in the bunch.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was originally released in North America first because the Japanese producer, SquareSoft, worried that their games were too hard for the North American audience, so they made Mystic Quest as an easy to play game. Mystic Quest was intended to be an easy game for people to play, but due to its lack in difficulty, it has amassed a bad reputation over the years. Even though most reviews of the game are generally averse, I personally really like the game. It might be my nostalgia talking, but I found the game sort of relaxing after playing some of the harder games in the Final Fantasy series, (I'm looking at you Final Fantasy 2).

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is about a boy named Benjamin who has to get the crystals, and stop the evil forces from taking over the world. Yes I know, very cliche story line, but if you couldn't predict the story line of a Final Fantasy game by this point, then that's your own problem. Even though the story was cliche, the story wasn't really what made the game for me. The part that made the game for me was the amazing soundtrack, and the fun combat.

The combat was fun for me because, instead of getting an anxiety attack every time monsters would randomly pop-up on your screen, the monster on your game are on the stages, so instead of random encounters, you have fixed encounters, sort of like in Chrono Trigger. I also liked the combat system because you spend over half of the time in game fighting and the other half doing story stuff, so you don't have to waste time doing side-quests or grinding out experience to gain that extra level. The soundtrack is so good that I do not even need to go into detail about it.

I think that Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is a really good game that you should check out, so here's a link to play the game online: http://www.letsplaysnes.com/play-final-fantasy-mystic-quest-online/?play=true

Try the game out if you have time, and keep your mind open to new things.
