Kabum E-Sports pulls off upset win over Alliance on Day 4 of LCS Championship

The league of legends world championship has always been a time where emotions are high and crazy things happen. Some of the best plays in League of Legends history have been made here, and also Cinderella stories have happened like when TPA won the season 2 world championship. However, today one of the largest upsets in league of legends history happened when Brazil's Kabum E-Sports beat EU LCS champs, Alliance.

The dream for Kabum started when the won the international wildcard tournament, making it into the World Championship by taking down Pineapple Express 3 to 0 in a best of 5 series. The league of legends world championship is structured in a way that 2 teams in the championship are wildcard teams. These teams generally tend to do very poorly, and usually end up losing all of their games. Even though Kabum failed to make it out of group stages this year, their win against Alliance is very important to for them.

Recently, people on social media, especially Reddit, have been complaining and saying that international wildcard teams do not deserve to be part of the world championship. The argument is that these teams are just free wins for the teams that they have to play against due to IWC teams not being on the same level as pro teams. The argument started to become prevalent again after the other IWC team Dark Passage from Turkey lost all 6 of their matches, and played terribly in all of them. I personally think that IWC teams are very important to the game because it helps the league of legends professional scene grow at a faster rate in countries where the LCS is not officially established. Another large reason why IWC teams are important to the world championship is because of the hype that they produce. Teams like these get every fan pumped up because every wants them to win.

When Kabum beat Alliance time basically came to a stop. Everyone was in disbelief because of how small their chances beating Alliance were. Reddit, and Twitter blew up with people posting their reactions to the game. This Video shows the reaction of the casters who were casting the game. You can clearly hear the disbelief in the voices of the casters as they get really excited as Kabum closes out the game and defeats Alliance. No one thought that Kabum would win, but due to Alliance picking a team comp with no wave clear, and they did not respect Kabum at all in game. In my opinion however, the real winner of this game was Cloud 9 from North America, because due to Kabum beating Alliance, they were able to advance to the quarter finals of the tournament.

With all of that said, this win for Kabum will be talked about for weeks, and this win will also help the Brazilian scene grow faster than ever. Maybe, we will see Brazilian teams at the world championship next year but only time will tell.
